Exclusive: Google Nexus One hands-on, video, and first impressions
That’s right, humans — Engadget has its very own Nexus One. You’ve seen leaked pics and videos from all over, but we’re the first publication to get our very own unit, and we plan on giving you guys the full story on every nook and cranny of this device. In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the breakdown of the phone. The HTC-built and (soon to be) Google-sold device runs Android 2.1 atop a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a 3.7-inch, 480 x 800 display, has 512MB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, and a 4GB microSD card (expandable to 32GB). The phone is a T-Mobile device (meaning no 3G if you want to take it to AT&T), and includes the standard modern additions of a light sensor, proximity sensor, and accelerometer. The Nexus One has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and we have to say so far the pictures it snaps look pretty decent (and the camera software is much faster than the same component on the Droid). The phone is incredibly thin and sleek — a little thinner than the iPhone — but it has pretty familiar HTC-style industrial design. It’s very handsome, but not blow-you-away good looking. It’s a very slim, very pocketable phone, and feels pretty good in your hand. Thought you’d have to wait for that Google event for more on the Nexus One? Hell no — so read on for an in-depth look. C’mon, you know you want to.

Apple’s ‘iSlate’ and other rumors that have given its stock a holiday boost

The Apple tablet rumors are at a fever pitch, yet again. Depending on what you’ve read, it’s all but confirmed that the company’s got a January 26th event scheduled at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) in San Francisco, CA. All this, of course, with nary a word or comment from Cupertino HQ, and without the context that this trend has come and gone ad nauseam, both with the tablet and before with the years of lead-up to the iPhone. Here’s the latest bit: MacRumors has dug up information about a Delaware-based company, Slate Computing, LLC, that was founded in November 2006 and owns the trademark “iSlate,” the signatory of said trademark being Apple’s Senior Trademark Specialist Regina Porter. Given that Apple owns “iSlate” trademark in Europe and that it’s allegedly pulled similar stunts with a “fake” company and the iPhone trademark, sure, we could buy into this being just a dummy corporation… but does it really confirm an impending tablet that’ll be called the “iSlate?” Not at all. We wouldn’t be surprised if Apple has done this for numerous other trademarks, either to give itself more options or to prevent others from trying to manufacture products under those names. (Slate Computing, LLC also happens to own the “Magic Slate” trademark, just so you know.) Also bought up in 2006? The domain iSlate.com, which again according to MacRumors (with help form Mark Gurman ofAppleRejectedMe.com) was apparently and briefly shown to be owned by Apple at some point during 2007. Food for thought, but trust us, you don’t want to confuse hearsay for concrete fact.
Which brings us to December 24th, where we see a statistically significant uptick in Apple’s stock value. Seeing as the fiscals were released back in late October along with the last refresh of hardware (Mac Pro specs notwithstanding), it seems everyone decided to spend their holiday bonuses on some Apple shares. Now, we’re not claiming to be professionals here by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems a lot of the activity here can be attributed to the recent flux of rumors. Jason Schwarz of The Street has an interesting take on it, which if you’ve got 15 minutes to kill should be worth your time to browse through.
Merry Christmas! = ]
Not gonna bore you on Christmas. So, Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you have a nice day. (and some good presents!)

iClassic:iPod Classic Emulator for iPhone/iPodTouch

Finally! I have been wanted this for a LONG time, and now its here! Its an iPod Classic emulator for the iPhone/iPod Touch. It runs fine, and looks great. Because it is using the touch screen is does have a LITTLE lag, but its fine if you spin slowly. It has two different skins within the app. You can choose to have the Silver Classic, or the Black Classic. The spin wheel however is different due to Apple copyright, but there is a skin in Cydia you can get for it that makes it JUST like the normal Spinwheel. You can buy this from the Big Boss source for $2. (Or add this http://repo.beyouriphone.com) I believe the theme is also from Big Boss so you won’t have to search for that. Jailbreaking Will Save Our Lives!!!

In recent study Nicolas Seriot found that iPhones that are Unjailbroken can be more of a security threat then those who are. How!? The stock iPhone OS being closed and unmodified makes it vulnerable to catching such “Viruses” through something as legit as a App Store app. Creepy? I think so! Jailbreak your phone to be on the safe side! What makes the jailbroken software safer? The fact that it has firewalls does. Remember when the “iPhone Conficker” virus came out targeting jailbroken iphones what did they tell you to do? Change your SSH password creating a firewall. So we did. This could not have been done without SSH…..Via Jailbreaking.
iTunes songs get cheaper?

The good people over at Bloomberg have been talking about a possibly new thing coming to iTunes. Its called Lala. Lala is a Music streaming technology that will make it cheaper for people buying songs. How does this change the price? Well now iTunes has it where you pay $0.99 – $1.29 to buy the song. That song is downloaded to your hard drive. With this new “Cloud” strategy you can get a song for $0.10 and have full access to it on the internet, or you can buy it for $0.79 more to download to your hard drive for a total of $0.89. This is good for the people who just listen to music, and have no need to actually have these files on their actual computers. For more information, and to sign up now go toLala.com
Zune HD – Purple and Magnenta versions!
Zune Originals promised us more color choices for Microsoft’s Zune HD PMP, and as expected the catalog has been updated with new magenta and purple versions. The colors – which join the original black, silver, blue, red and green models – are part of Microsoft’s Zune HD holiday promotion, and the company is also offering free message engraving.

The new hues are pretty subdued – which we’re not saying is a bad thing – and go very nicely with the Zune HD’s angular, almost industrial casing design. Unsurprisingly Microsoft are also pushing their Zune Pass unlimited music service, too; you’ll get a free month’s access with a new Zune HD, but after that it’s $14.99 per month.
Pricing for the new color versions is unchanged, at around $220 for the 16GB model and around $290 for the 32GB version. They’re available to order now. - Slashgear
